CBM Announces the 62nd CBM Awards Nominees

The CBM judges have completed their evaluations and the nominations for the 62nd Annual Awards ceremony are ready! After a comprehensive judging period, finalists in 21 written, visual or special categories will be recognized for their excellence in Canadian business-to-business magazine publishing.

More than 67 magazines entered the competition which was adjudicated by 75 volunteer judges. A total of 141 submissions from 36 Canadian B2B publications are nominated for awards in 21 written, visual and special categories. Certain awards are organized into two divisions: trade publications and professional publications.

The Gold, Silver and Honourable Mention awards will be presented at the Grand Banking Hall at One King West in Toronto, on Tuesday June 7, during the CBM Awards gala. For tickets and information, as well as to view the complete list and full text of nominees, please visit krwawards.ca.



Canadian Business Media is pleased to announce that the 2016 Harvey SouthamMichel_Dongois.png Leadership Award will be presented to Michel Dongois, senior journalist of the business-to-business press. Recognized for his outstanding professionalism, integrity and humanism, Mr. Dongois will receive this prestigious honour at the the CBM award ceremony.

The Harvey Southam Award is the highest individual honour bestowed by Canadian Business Media. Winners represent the highest standards of B2B publishing and are recognized for their contributions to the Canadian Business Media tradition of distinguished initiative, leadership and integrity.




One of the CBM’s most prestigious awards is for Magazine of the Year. This award goes to the publication that displays overall excellence in content and design, and that most consistently mirrors its mandate/mission and most effectively engages and serves the needs of its readers.

Get to know the top magazines in contention for Magazine of the Year:

BCBusiness: For more than 40 years, BCBusiness has informed, empowered and connected British Columbian leaders and entrepreneurs innovating in the province and beyond. An essential source in the business community, the publication features deep analysis, strong storytelling, and authoritative opinion. BCBusiness is also finalist in the category of Best Cover.

Marketing: Marketing aims to serve the chief marketing officer’s playbook. Thanks to compelling stories supported by strong design elements, each issue informs and inspires the decision makers and by extension, the various businesses that surround them in the marketing industry. The magazine’s team is nominated for five other awards as well, including Best Issue and Best Art Direction of a Complete Issue.

The Medical Post: The independent voice for Canada’s doctors, The Medical Post is a vehicle for physicians to share their experience through doctor-authored content. The periodical, which celebrated 50 years of publishing in 2015, offers surveys, research-based clinical content, helpful practice management tips and more to the physician community. The Medical Post also garnered six nominations for written categories.


This year the CBM Awards added two new categories; Best Media Brand and Best In-House covers. 

For Best Media Brand, judges evaluated publications in terms of reader engagement in print and/or digital environments. Each entry was evaluated on how clearly it aligns its editorial mission with journalistic excellence, presentation, service to readers, innovation, and use of multiple content platforms—including print, digital, social media, multimedia, live events, and others—to serve and grow the brand’s audience.

The 3 finalists for Best Media Brand are: Lexpert, Precedent and University Affairs.


For Best In-House Covers, judges evaluated any single publication whose cover was produced in-house by the editorial team. The intent was to reward publications that maximize the impact of magazine covers on a limited budget.

The 4 finalists for Best In-House Covers are: Advisor’s Edge, Conseiller, FranchiseCanada and Hotelier.



In the special category Best Cover, the six finalists are BCBusiness, Canadian Lawyer, CPA Magazine, Pharmacy Practice+, Professionally Speaking and University Affairs.


The magazines in contention for the special award Best Issue of 2015 are CPA Magazine, D&A Magazine, Foodservice and Hospitality, Marketing, Professionally Speaking and University Affairs.


Some other notable nominations include:

CPA Magazine leads all publications with 25 nominations. Ranking second is Professionally Speaking/Pour parler profession with 16 nominations. University Affairs and D&A Magazine earned 8 nominations each.
